Welcome to my website!

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit more about me and the way I work.

The therapeutic space I offer you is free from judgements, safe and confidential (with some limitations).

I am a relaxed and kind person, I'm not uncomfortable if you swear, cry or need a few moments to collect your thoughts before continuing.

My
Story

A bit about me.

I offer a warm and caring therapeutic relationship to my clients; am a person-centred humanistic counsellor and feel that this approach fits with my way of being.

For me, being respectful, non-judgmental, open and honest is key to the counselling relationship working.

I qualified with a 2:1 Ba (Hons) degree in Counselling, am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and complete Continual Professional Development  (CPD) to keep my practice ethical and up-to-date. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

About the way I work.

Generally I don’t assign work to be done between sessions, although I may signpost resources and send links to topics we have discussed if I feel it will give you a greater understanding.

I like clients to have a goal or hopes for life after counselling, but we go at your speed and if something happens between sessions that you would rather focus on in a session, that is not a problem as it's your time to be heard.

I enjoy working with a variety of people of all ages, nationalities, genders and LGBTQIA+ and feel that the unconditional positive regard offered as part of the person-centred approach really adds to the therapeutic relationship.

Choosing a counsellor can be a daunting experience so I offer you a free of charge 15 minute chat, or you can send me an email and ask me any questions that way if you’d rather.

My Experience

  • Am used to working with people in the first few weeks after a sudden death or suspected suicide, experiencing raw grief.

  • Have lived experience of a family member with autism and ADHD and everything that brings.

  • Have worked with neurodivergent clients.

  • Experience working with clients whose country of origin were all over the world, and English was not their first language.

  • Have worked with clients of all major religions, spiritualists and those who have no beliefs.

  • Have worked with LGBTQIA+ and non-binary clients.

  • Have experience and training for counselling people that live with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and understand the anxiety and worries a long-term medical diagnosis can bring.

  • Have a special interest in fertility issues, IVF and adoption issues.

In my practice, I enjoy linking adult behaviours or feelings to childhood experiences, whether they are negative or positive, as once we have the awareness of why we react a certain way, we can work on it.

The Person-Centred Approach is a talking therapy that does not assign homework and has as its core values that a therapist should be empathic, non-judgemental, genuine whilst being fully present and actively listening as well as recognising that the client is an expert on themselves. I aim to bring all of these aspects to our sessions as well as empowering you to make the changes you would like to.

For me, being respectful, non-judgemental, open and honest is key to the counselling relationship working.

Practice description

All sessions are delivered remotely by phone or Microsoft Teams (no download is necessary).

My working days are Mondays and Thursdays 10am - 2pm and 8 - 9pm in the evening, I also offer an evening session on a Sunday, starting at 8pm. Sessions are 50 minutes in length and cost £40, concessions (including students and those on low income, PIP etc) are £25. I ask for payment the day before the session at the latest, although clients are welcome to pay a week in advance or for a maximum of 4 sessions at a time by bank transfer if they wish.

We have a review every 4-6 weeks to see how the therapy is progressing and review your goals/aims.

I also offer clients the opportunity after the initial work has been completed to switch to sessions every 2 weeks. Reducing the frequency of sessions helps a client to feel supported until they are ready to end the sessions. All clients are welcome to come back to me in future, should the need arise.

I know that if you have an illness like MS you may be too fatigued on the day to attend the session and because I ask for payment in advance, you may feel that you can't commit. Please be reassured that I am understanding and if you have paid and are unable to attend at short notice, you only have to send me an email and we will reschedule for another day and you will not have to pay again. Same goes for certain other situations so please contact me to discuss your personal circumstances in more detail.

My first session

Before our first session I will email over a copy of the Contract for you to read, it has my bank details on for the payment, and I will confirm receipt and the session.

The first session lasts 60 minutes (at no extra charge) to complete a registration form, using an outcome measuring tool, finding out what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve from the sessions, some people have a goal, some don’t and that’s okay.

If you feel that we could work together, you will be asked to sign and return the contract.

After 4-6 sessions, we will have a review, repeat the outcome measuring tool, discuss how you feel things are going.

Depending on needs, clients can have anything from 2-32 sessions or more if required.
